This table is in catalogue number order and shows which of our catalogue items are
classed as dangerous goods for shipping purposes. "Yes" in the DGs by air column means
that this item can only be shipped overseas by airfreight. Airfreight costs will
be charged to you. If a quantity is indicated, this item may be airfreighted in "limited
quantities": it is still DG but travels a little cheaper. If you require this item to
be airfreighted within Australia, the same rules apply.
The DGs by road column (within Australia only), indicates the quantities above which an item must be shipped as a DG item. If we are shipping less than this quantity, we still cannot send by post or courier, but the DG charge will not apply. Items above the indicated quantity are shipped as dangerous goods by road and are charged $20 by the trucking company; we reclaim this fee only, from the customer. All Class 6 dangerous goods are charged $75, regardless of quantity.
You may reason that these rules hardly improve safety and are rather costly, or that most
of the listed chemicals in the quantities shipped by us are rather less harmful than the
acid and lead in the truck's battery and the fuel in the tank. Or you could reason that
householders can and do purchase and carry more dangerous cargo in the family car. All of
this makes nonsense of the road freight rules for small quantities of DGs.
If you want to change this apparent and costly nonsense, then all you need to do is to
get the politicians to manage the road freight mess. Good luck to us all.
